Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and Chlorophyll Content for Precision Nitrogen Management in Durum Wheat Cultivars under Semi-Arid Conditions

To impart sustainability to modern intensive farming systems, environmental pollution caused by nitrogenous fertilizers in needs be reduced optimizing their doses. estimate the grain yield and nutrtional quallity of wheat, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) chlorophyll content (SPAD) are potential screening tools identify N deficiency screen out promising cultivars. The two-year field study was comprised with five levels nitrogen (N) (control, 50, 100, 150 200 kg ha?1) two durum wheat genotypes (Sena Svevo). experimental design split-plot, which were placed main plots, while arranged sub-plots. predict quality traits, NDVI SPAD values recorded at heading, anthesis milky growth stages taken as response variables. results revealed that fertilization significantly influenced attributed traits except stage (NDVI-M) during first year. maximum value ha?1, control treatment gave minimum value. increased increasing dose up 100 ha?1 (4121 ha?1), thereafter, it declined further levels. However, variation between not significant, stage. genotype Svevo had highest all stages, Sena both years. Similarly, (protein, wet gluten, starch test weight Zeleny sedimentation) genotypes. highly significant relationship attributes showed reliability indicators for determining selection superior ensuring food security under climate change scenario.
